Icons at St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Juneau, AK

As long as we're on the theme of icons (see previous post), I thought I would share some photos of the icons that Charles painted for St. Paul the Apostle Parish in the Mendenhall Valley.

  1. Where do his ideas come from? Does he model these after earlier icons, use human models, or use his imagination? These are just wonderful Paula.

  2. Thanks Allison - he uses the traditional method of iconography. He can explain it better than I can. He does a drawing based on the pattern for that particular icon, using the conventions set forth by the early iconographers (pattern, color, inscriptions, gilding, etc.)

There is a very detailed theology of the icon as well. Charles is the expert!
