As long as we're on the theme of icons (see previous post), I thought I would share some photos of the icons that Charles painted for St. Paul the Apostle Parish in the Mendenhall Valley.
The view from the pews.
The Holy Family
The Risen Jesus with Mary Magdalene at the tomb.
Christ in Glory
Where do his ideas come from? Does he model these after earlier icons, use human models, or use his imagination? These are just wonderful Paula.
ReplyDeletevery nice icons
ReplyDeleteThanks Allison - he uses the traditional method of iconography. He can explain it better than I can. He does a drawing based on the pattern for that particular icon, using the conventions set forth by the early iconographers (pattern, color, inscriptions, gilding, etc.)
ReplyDeleteThere is a very detailed theology of the icon as well. Charles is the expert!
these are just beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteWow, beautiful! Those colors are amazing.
